Help honor the Class of 2020 by turning on your porch lights Friday at 8:20 p.m.

Bellingham Public Schools are asking you turn on your porch lights at 8:20 p.m. Friday, April 17, to salute seniors of the Class of 2020 who are missing graduation ceremonies due to coronavirus social distancing.

Superintendent Greg Baker, in an email to community members Thursday evening, April 16, credited Bellingham High senior Logan Foy for his “innovative and safe idea to participate in this effort to build community and show appreciation!”

Some districts across the state plan to turning on stadium lights to celebrate their seniors, but that encouraged people to drive and congregate, going against Gov. Jay Inslee’s orders to stay home, Baker wrote.

How are you celebrating your Whatcom County 2020 graduate?
