Lynden Manor reports second resident dies and 8 more positive tests for coronavirus
A man in his 90s who was a hospice resident at Lynden Manor and tested positive for COVID-19 died Tuesday night, April 7, the assisted living facility reported on its website Wednesday.
He is the second Lynden Manor resident who tested positive for the new coronavirus to die.
The facility also reported in the post that it currently has 10 residents who have tested positive for the respiratory illness, and one staff member also has tested positive. The 13 total positive tests is up from the five the Whatcom County facility last reported on March 31.
“For the 10 remaining residents with COVID-19, we are glad to report that they are all doing well so far,” Lynden Manor said in the post. “One resident that had symptoms and was diagnosed at the beginning of last week appears to be recovering. The remaining nine residents remain fever free and are not reporting any new symptoms.”
In addition to the one staff member who tested positive, three others had tests come back negative, the facility reported, and “a couple more tests” are still pending results.
The facility said it is working closely with the Whatcom County Department of Health on safe practices and with Whatcom Unified Command, the multi-governmental agency that’s directing local pandemic response, to secure additional personal protection equipment to protect residents and staff.
The health department on Wednesday reported one new death of a resident that tested positive for COVID-19 and three more residents had tested positive, bringing the county’s totals to 20 deaths and 241 positive tests. It is unclear at this time if the Lynden Manor death was the one reported by the health department Wednesday, as details on that death have not yet been released.
