Lynden Sikh members giving back as community wrestles with coronavirus pandemic
Members of the Lynden Sikh community are giving away free milk and bread to Whatcom County residents throughout the month.
Two gallons of milk and loaves of bread are being distributed to people at locations in Ferndale, Lynden and Blaine. The locations will be handing these out from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through April 20.
The locations are:
- 360 D Street in Blaine
- 6896 Guide Meridian Road in Lynden
- 6000 Portal Way in Ferndale
Lynden Gurdwara Sukhwant President Singh Gill said the giveaway is the community’s way to give back and help others during the coronavirus shutdown.
“We’re just trying to help and give something back to the community when they’re going through this hardship of COVID-19,” Gill said. “Everybody doesn’t do it, but some people feel we should do it when it’s hard times. If you can, you should come out and do these things.”
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREWhat you should know about the coronavirus
COVID-19, the new coronavirus, is a disease caused by a virus named SARS-CoV-2.
The disease is spread through contact between people within six feet of each other, especially through coughing and sneezing that expels respiratory droplets that land in the mouths or noses of people nearby.
Although most of the cases have been mild, the disease is especially dangerous for the elderly and others with weaker immune systems.
