If you have an urge to become a pinball wizard, there’s now a new option in Bellingham.
The Racket recently opened at 1220 N. State St., next to The Shakedown. The bar and pinball lounge is geared to the over-21 crowd and offers a full food menu, including cheesesteaks and falafel pitas, according to a news release. It has 14 pinball machines from the Bellingham Pinball Collective, which will rotate different vintage games.
The Racket is under the ownership of Marty Watson, Hollie Huthman and Spencer Willows, who wanted to create a space that would be equally comfortable for a wide variety of Bellingham residents. It’s also a place to hang out as live music is playing at The Shakedown.
“So many music venues in Seattle and other cities have a cover-free annex, and we wanted to offer that, too,” said Huthman in the news release.

The lounge also have a 10-stool bar that leads to a small, darker lounge area that has a jukebox.
Much of the space also has reclaimed materials, including bleachers originally installed at Anacortes High School in the 1920s.
The Racket is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. for food and is open for drinks until 2 a.m. every day. It will have a grand opening party on Sunday, July 5. Get further details on The Racket’s Facebook page.
