Bellingham’s Kinney acquires two companies

Bellingham’s Ben Kinney is adding to his to his list of companies by recently acquiring two real estate related firms.

Kinney has entered into an agreement to acquire ActiveRain and Kwkly, two companies operated by the Zillow Group. According to a news release, ActiveRain is a social networking and training platform for the real estate industry, while Kwkly is a service that helps buyers connect with agents. The ActiveRain sale is expected to close on Tuesday, June 30, while the Kwkly acquisition is expected to be completed within a month.

“I’m excited at the opportunity to bring ActiveRain and Kwkly into the Ben Kinney family, and to provide the stewardship needed to continue their growth and impact,” said Kinney in a news release. “This acquisition not only extends our company’s global reach, but it also strengthens Bellingham’s status as a technology hub in the Pacific Northwest.”

Kinney’s companies include a collection of real estate-related training and software companies, including Real Launch, Brivity and Blossor, as well as the technology firms Big Fresh and Tech Help. Kinney has been a licensed real estate professional for 11 years and leads nearly 1,000 agents in the real estate brokerages he owns in the U.S. and the United Kingdom.
