Whatcom County home sales remained strong in May even as prices continue to rise.
Last month local real estate agents sold 325 houses and condominiums, up 25 percent compared to a year earlier, according to data from the Northwest Multiple Listing Service. The last time agents tallied 320 or more sales of houses and condos was in July 2013. The highest monthly total in the past 10 years was 398, set in August 2007.
Whatcom County median home prices are also on the rise. Last month the median price was $277,000, a 6.3 percent increase compared to a year earlier. The highest monthly median price for house and condo sales was $280,450, set in May 2007.
Last month 520 houses and condos were put on the market. May is typically the busiest month for new listings; last year the total coming on the market was 587. By the end of summer around 300 houses and condos are typically entering the market.
