Whatcom wages rise 2.2 percent in third quarter

Wages in Whatcom County increased 2.2 percent in the third quarter of 2014, slightly better than the national average according to a new federal report.

The average weekly wage was $782 in Whatcom County during the third quarter, ranking this area ninth highest out of Washington’s 10 largest counties, according to data from the U.S. Department of Labor. King County has the highest average weekly wage in the state, at $1,452.

The U.S. national average was $949 in the third quarter, up 2 percent compared to a year earlier. Washington state had the sixth highest average in the nation, at $1,087.
