Construction has begun for a 153-room Holiday Inn hotel near the Bellingham International Airport.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held earlier this week for the hotel, which will have 7,500 square feet of meeting space, a full-service restaurant, indoor pool and underground parking. The hotel will be built on Port of Bellingham property on Mitchell Way, near the Pacific Cataract Laser Institute.
Construction is expected to take 16 months and cost around $20 million. M&H Contracting LLC will be the general contractor while Hotel Services Group, LLC of Mount Vernon will manage the hotel.
“We intend to create a market for inbound mid-size group conference business that is not being pursued to any significant degree by the existing hotels that are located in Bellingham,” said Dan Mitzel, co-managing member of ownership group Bellingham HI LLC, in a news release. “Bellingham needs to become a destination for out-of-area conference business.”
