Bellingham’s Western Solar moving into a bigger space

A local provider of solar energy systems is moving into a bigger space and making plans to expand its staff.

Western Solar is making preparations to move to 4041 Home Road, near Interstate and Northwest Avenue. The plan is to be open in the new facility by Wednesday, April 1, said Josh Miller, general manager of the company. Western Solar is currently at 319 E. Champion St.

The new facility will triple the company’s warehouse space to 6,000 square feet and include a conference room and office space, Miller said. The company will also be installing an electric vehicle charging station that’s free for customers to use. He said a large number of the company’s customers use electric cars.

Sales in solar products have risen substantially across Washington, Miller said, particularly at homes as residents take advantage of solar tax credits and incentives. Much of Western Solar’s sales have been for residential projects in Whatcom and Skagit counties.

With the expansion the company is making plans to hire around six more employees in the coming year. The current staff level is 14, he said.
