Janicki Industries announces plans for new Montana facility, thousands of jobs

A local engineering and manufacturing company is expanding beyond Washington with plans to build its next manufacturing campus in Montana.

Janicki Industries announced plans Tuesday to build an $800 million facility in Great Falls, Montana, which the company expects will add 2 million square feet of production space over the next 10 years.

Company leaders anticipate the facility will create 1,000 new jobs in the first five years, with total employment exceeding 2,000 jobs after the facility is completed.

“We want to be clear: Janicki is not leaving Washington. Our expansion to Montana is about meeting growing demand from our aerospace, defense and space customers,” Janicki marketing manager Erin Hurley told The Bellingham Herald.

Consistent growth in these sectors has increased demand beyond the capacity of Janicki’s existing facilities in Washington and Utah, according to the expansion announcement.

The company selected Great Falls to build the campus as part of a “multistate, phased growth strategy designed to meet increasing customer demand while creating meaningful economic opportunity in the communities where Janicki operates,” the announcement said.

The company currently operates more than 1 million square feet of facilities across the two states — including at facilities in Sedro Woolley, Bellingham, Hamilton and Mount Vernon — and employs more than 2,000 people. Janicki was founded in 1993 and specializes in advanced composites, precision machining and metal fabrication.

Expanding to Montana “reflects the company’s long-term commitment to the customers, employees and communities it serves,” the announcement said.

“We are very thankful for our customers and grateful for the employees who continue to meet or exceed our customers’ needs,” Janicki president John Janicki said in the announcement. “We believe in creating an environment where hard work, innovation and collaboration are rewarded, not only professionally, but through opportunities to build a life, own a home, raise a family or pursue entrepreneurial goals. Great Falls embodies the kind of community where we feel those opportunities can flourish.”

The manufacturing campus will be built on 180 acres, with construction expected to begin in July. The first phase of the campus is expected to be open by the end of 2027.
