Downtown Bellingham coffee shop closing due to costs, declining foot traffic
Downtown Bellingham is losing a well-established coffee shop this month.
Woods Coffee will be closing its Railroad Avenue location the end of this month, according to an email from Natalie Moon, a member of the chain’s guest experience team.
“Ultimately, the location was no longer economically sustainable due to steadily rising operating costs combined with a sustained decline in foot traffic in the area over recent years,” Moon told The Herald.
At this time, there are no plans for Woods to relocate or add another downtown Bellingham location, according to Moon.
“While it’s difficult to say goodbye to a location with so much history and community attached to it, we’re also excited about future opportunities. This decision allows us to focus our energy and resources on areas where we’re continuing to see growth, momentum, and the ability to keep investing in a great experience for our guests,” Moon told The Herald.
Woods Coffee is a Lynden-based chain coffee roastery and bakery with locations across Whatcom, Skagit, King and Snohomish counties.
Once the downtown Bellingham location closes, Bellingham will still home six locations across its neighborhoods, with nearby cafes in Fairhaven, Barkley Village and Lakeway Drive.
The downtown Bellingham location will have its last day of operation on Sunday, May 31. The shop is open from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at 1135 Railroad Ave.
