Cozy up at ‘Bellingham’s living room,’ a new downtown bar opening soon
A new bar is opening this week in downtown Bellingham. It was launched by the owners of Wild Buffalo House of Music with a vision to create “Bellingham’s living room” space.
The Den, located at 1319 Commercial St. in downtown Bellingham, will have a soft opening Friday, Nov. 21, according to a Facebook post from one of its owners, Craig Jewell.
“The bar is named and themed after my favorite room at my grandparent’s house. The Den was a place to come together, to eat snacks, and reconnect with friends and family before and after dinner,” Jewell wrote on Nov. 17.
“The game, whatever it may be, was always on the TV, but the volume was never at a level that impeded our ability to comfortably communicate with each other (unless it’s the big game that everyone wanted to be immersed in). When the sports were done, we listened to records together. That’s the model of Bellingham’s Den,” Jewell said.
“The Den will be your spot to get drinks before and after shows at the Wild Buffalo, Mount Baker Theatre and Pickford Film Center as well as your place to watch the Seahawks, Kraken, Sounders, Storm and everything else,” Jewell said.
The Den has already become a community space, as other local businesses contribute to the new bar, including its next-door restaurant neighbor.
“We’ve partnered up with our neighbors, Brandywine Kitchen, and anyone will be able to order their delicious food at The Den and it will be plated and delivered to wherever you are sitting,” Jewell said.
“Our mascot is none other than Jobin, my wife Kelsey Wylie’s and I’s beloved pooch. The legends at Aslan Brewing Company made a special lager to celebrate our little guy so make sure to come down and grab a Jobin,” Jewell said.
Even Bellingham’s popular brewery that recently closed, Boundary Bay Brewery, loaned the bar tables and chairs, according to Jewell’s post.
“We couldn’t be more excited about welcoming ya’ll to Bellingham’s Living Room. The Den,” Jewell said.
The Den will be open from 4 p.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
