Whatcom Roundup: Bellingham restaurant listed for sale, chain moving into Rite Aid spot

Banter listed for sale
Banter, a coffee shop, cafe and restaurant in Bellingham has been listed for sale on BizBuySell.com.
The listing includes all kitchen equipment, furniture, fixtures, front-of-house equipment, a walk-in cooler, a newly built patio, a liquor license and “all the components, systems, and characteristics in place to set up the next owner(s) for success,” according to the listing. The listing has an asking price of $425,000.
The listing also includes a six-month training and support from Banter’s owner, Emile Diffley, in hopes that Banter will continue. The Bellingham Herald reached out to the restaurant but did not receive a response as of Oct. 2.
Banter is currently operating as usual and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at 114 Prospect St. in Bellingham.
Chain proposes to take over Bellingham Rite Aid
Last year, two Bellingham Rite Aid pharmacy stores closed permanently, and now a national chain has proposed to take over one of the locations.
La-Z-Boy, a chain furniture store, has filed a building permit with the city of Bellingham to take over the previous retail space of Rite Aid at 222 Telegraph Rd. The permit for the building transformation has an estimated cost of $1,100,000 and was approved on Sept. 27.
