Twitter files to lay off 208 Seattle employees under Elon Musk’s new ownership
Twitter plans to lay off 208 Seattle employees in January 2023, according to the company’s recent filing of a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN notice, according to the Washington State Employment Security Department.
Twitter Inc. filed the WARN announcement on Nov. 4, stating that the company will be laying off a total of 208 employees in Seattle on Jan. 4, 2023.
Twitter also categorized the layoffs as permanent.
The ESD received the WARN announcement on Nov. 4 and send out a public notice on Nov. 7 of the announcement.
The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires companies that have 100 more employees to notify workers who are affected by closures or layoffs at least 60 days in advance, and the state’s Employment Security Department publishes a WARN database online.
The layoffs follow a recent change in the social media giant’s ownership, as Elon Musk recently bought the company.
