This national retailer is closing its store at Bellis Fair mall in Bellingham

DSW posted a sign on its front door announcing that the Bellis Fair location in Bellingham is closing on Saturday, March 20.

Designer Brands, Inc., owner of 524 U.S. Designer Shoe Warehouse stores, noted at its Dec. 9 third-quarter earnings call that “it is likely we will look to close 10% to 15% of our store fleet.”

The 12,000-square-foot shoe store first opened at Bellis Fair in April 2015, offering about 15,000 pairs of shoes, along with belts, purses, bags, wallets, hats and other clothing accessories. The opening of DSW was the final piece of the transformation to the former movie theater space, which closed in 2014. Chipotle and Buffalo Wild Wings were also a part of that major remodel.

The closure continues what’s been a string of national retailers leaving or announcing departures from the mall since the beginning of the year, including Christopher & Banks, Hollister Co. and the Gap.
