2016 fall events calendar for Whatcom County families

A playful exhibit of Bellingham’s past, a toy show and swap, and a new bluegrass festival in Ferndale are a few of the events that will keep families from getting bored as we head into winter.

“Nostalgic Saturation: Mid-Century Bellingham in Historic Color”

Kids (and grown-ups) can get a look at the past in this exhibit at Whatcom Museum’s Old City Hall, 121 Prospect St., that features photos in Ektachrome, Kodachrome and Technicolor slide film, shot in the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s in Bellingham. $4-$10

Hovander Homestead Bluegrass Festival

The inaugural Hovander Homestead Bluegrass Festival, hosted by Whatcom Parks and Recreation Foundation at Hovander Homestead Park in Ferndale, includes music by nationally recognized bands, craft and food vendors and children’s activities. TICKETS RANGE FROM DAILY TICKETS TO WEEKEND PASSES; CAMPING IS EXTRA.

Greek Festival

St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church hosts its annual festival celebrating Greek culture at the Sunset Drive church with live Greek music, traditional foods (including desserts) kids’ activities and dancing. EVENTS FREE

Puget Sound Toy Show

People can show, sell, and trade toy tractors and construction vehicles, cars, and trucks and NASCAR items at the Northwest Washington Fair & Events Center in Lynden. Net proceeds go to Ebenezer Christian School. $5 ADULTS, $2 AGES 6-12, FREE FOR AGES 5 AND YOUNGER.

Bellingham SeaFeast

Bellingham SeaFeast showcases and celebrates our marine heritage, thriving working waterfront, commercial fishing and seafood industries, and the area’s culinary bounty in a family-friendly event at Zuanich Point Park. FREE

Model Railroad Show

The 32nd annual Lynden Lions Club International Model Railroad and Circus Builders Show and Swap Meet at the Northwest Washington Fair & Events Center in Lynden, offers memorabilia, workshops and open space for model train layouts and vendor displays. Silent Films Series with Live Score: “Peter Pan”

The 1924 film version of “Peter Pan” underwent a complete restoration in 1995, and organist Dennis James was commissioned to restore the original score, which he’ll perform at the screening at Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St. $22.50, $15.50, $10.50, $10.50

Fairhaven Holiday Festival
