Ask Dan Cramer, owner of Dan Cramer’s Western Town, what he offers and the quick-witted 62-year-old cracks wise.
“It would be easier to tell you what we don’t do,” he said.
He started building and creating the Western Town in 1989, using his grandmother’s original home as home base. From there it has taken on a life of its own.
“We’re growing,” he said in between bites of a breakfast burrito. “We’re getting some attention.”
Question: So, what is Dan Cramer’s Western Town?
Answer: They host events, including birthday parties, weddings, company parties and more. They can host events outside at their location in beautiful northern Whatcom County where you can enjoy the open country with scenic mountain views. Inside they offer undercover events in their rustic, western-themed barn regardless of weather. They also offer wagon rides, a mobile petting zoo and western-style decor for your event – for kids and adults – an enjoyable and memorable one.
Q: What is one of the most popular features of the town?
A: Probably the pumpkin patch, and it will be back this year starting in October. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is a petting zoo, train rides, pony rides, a fun zone that includes a hay jump, whole corn to play in and a duck race, a hay maze, horse drawn wagon rides to the pumpkin patch, homegrown pumpkins, hand-led draft horse rides, hay toss and more.
Q: Do you have a lot of children come through?
A: Yes. Last fall, they had 3,000 children visit here.
Q: Do you get schoolchildren on field trips?
A: Yes, preschool classes should call for reservations at 360-510-7466.
Q: What enjoyment do you get out of this?
A: Putting a kid on a pony for the first time and helping them get over their fears. It’s fun to see the kids get out there and pet the animals.
Q: But this place isn’t just for kids, is it?
A: No, adults love this place, too. It brings out the kid in them. And couples love the scenery here for engagement photos. Some have even come here to have their senior pictures taken. They love the outdoorsy farm look and feel.
Q: Where are you located?
A: You can find Western Town at 956 Vandyk Road, Lynden.
