Kelly Ripa Calls Out Husband Mark Consuelos for Making Fan 'Swear' on Her Kids
Kelly Ripa was taken aback when her husband, Mark Consuelos, took extra measures to win a game of "Stump Mark" by asking a woman to "swear" on her kids.
Things went awry during the Wednesday, May 20, segment on Live With Kelly and Mark, when Lisa Best of Chattanooga, Tennessee, dropped two tidbits about her life - one of which was true while the other was a fib.
The segment had Consuelos, 55, trusting his gut to determine which was the real deal. In this case: whether Best once attended Georgia's Dolly Parton Day Festival or performed at the Grand Ole Opry as part of a clogging team when she was in seventh grade.
Consuelos found himself questioning both claims, despite leaning towards the Grand Ole Opry story being true. "I don't know, I was thinking the opposite," he said after learning that nearly 80 percent of viewers were convinced by her Dolly Day claim. "This is tough."
He was keen on answering correctly, given his recent winning streak, noting, "I'm having a record May."
Consuelos knew that his next remark would cause a stir and still proceeded anyway, adding, "I'm going to do something that may ruffle some feathers, but I'm going to do it."
He asked Best if she had any kids, which visibly surprised Ripa, 55.
After Best confirmed that she is indeed a mother, he asked, "Do you swear on your kids that you participated in the Dolly Day Festival?"
Not only was Ripa shocked by his question, but the audience audibly gasped with some laughs over the now-viral moment.
"Mark! WHAT?!" Best replied.
Ripa then entered the chat, telling Best, "What! Do not - no!" (Ripa and Consuelos, for their part, have been married since 1996. They share three kids: Michael, Lola and Joaquin.)
Consuelos refused to back down, chiming in, "No, no. I'm doing it!"
"You are not! You are not doing it," Ripa fired back, telling Lisa, "You do not have to answer that question."
Best appreciated Ripa's support and opted against swearing on her children while presenting Consuelos with one truth and one lie.
Ripa then put Consuelos on blast, quipping, "What kind of a monster are you?" She told him of the crowd reaction, "They are horrified! People are gagged! They are shocked! They are outraged!"
Consuelos ultimately guessed wrong in the end, later finding out the Dolly Day story was true.
Ripa rejoiced, "And that's what you get, Mark!."
