Chick-fil-A plans for Bellingham location on track; opening soon
Back in May, Chick-fil-A took the first step in bringing its popular food chain to Whatcom County, and here’s the latest update on its progress.
On May 12, Chick-fil-A Inc. filed a pre-application to the city of Bellingham for a 5,028-square-foot restaurant at 4030 Cordata Parkway.
The restaurant would feature a two-lane drive-through area that can fit 46 cars, along with 74 interior seats and 48 exterior seats.
The proposed location is a vacant parking lot located north of Bellis Fair Mall and west of Barnes and Noble.
So when can Whatcom County residents expect Chick-fil-A to move in?
Unfortunately, no opening date or construction dates have been set, but the company is still “actively pursuing” the Bellingham location.
“While we are still early in the process, Chick-fil-A is happy to share that we are actively pursuing our first location in Whatcom County ... We look forward to working through the approval process with the City of Bellingham and are excited by the prospect of joining this community,” a Chick-fil-A spokesperson wrote in a September email to The Bellingham Herald. The spokesperson confirmed this week that nothing had changed and offered no additional comments.
The new restaurant would provide more another food option, as it would also create 80 to 120 jobs for local residents, according to the email.
“We hope to have the opportunity to serve new guests delicious food in an environment of genuine hospitality,” the spokesperson stated.
Since filing the pre-application in May, Chick-fil-A also has met with city representativew to discuss concept plans and has been working on a traffic impact analysis, according to an email from Blake Lyon, the City of Bellingham’s director of planning and community development.
“As you can probably appreciate this is an important consideration for our community, and we want to be able to fully evaluate the project-specific conditions and potential impacts to ensure that we can make informed decisions,” Lyon wrote.
