Female-owned Whatcom County business expands after over 10 years of savory service
Holly’s Meat Pies, a Whatcom County staple and self-proclaimed “Washington’s original pasty company” is celebrating a new location and over 10 years in business.
The beloved farm-to-table hand pie company first opened in January 2012, when Holly Bevan-Bumford combined her love for Michigan’s cornish pasty and her hours of baking experience with her grandmother to create the savory shop.
Since then, the business has flourished at its kitchen in Everson and a storefront in Bellingham.
Now, Holly’s Meat Pies closed its previous locations to open its new storefront that will have its grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 14.
“Having outgrown our former commercial kitchen space, we are now cooking up a storm in a new, larger kitchen. We love our new place and cannot wait to share it,” the company stated in a news release.
“I was fortunate to receive a WSDA Infrastructure Grant that made my move and building of a new larger kitchen possible. We had down time as we were moving sinks, refrigerators, and ovens to the new kitchen. Once all was assembled, inspected, and permitted, we were then able to start cooking!
“Now we are settled in and want to share and celebrate our new larger kitchen,” Bevan-Bumford, the sole owner of the company wrote in an email to The Bellingham Herald.
Customers can purchase to-go hot or fully cooked and frozen pasties to reheat at home. The menu includes lamb, beef, pork empanada and chicken pot pie pasties, as well as veggie, vegan and breakfast pasties. Dessert bars and turnovers are also available. Customers can also order online and pick up in-store during operating hours.
The grand opening event runs from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 14 and will include cookies, refreshments, tours of the new kitchen and drawings for hats, mugs and gift certificates.
Holly’s Meat Pies is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 4073 Hannegan Road, Suite J in Bellingham.
