The 2017 WonderMud will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bellingham BMX Race Track, 5022 Guide Meridian. Heats will leave every 30 minutes until 2 p.m. WonderMud will feature several obstacles including mud pits that combine athletic stamina and your childhood fantasy of playing in the mud. The 2017 course is approximately 1.75 miles and will take between 20 and 40 minutes to complete. There will be a bag-drop service at the start/finish line for your car keys, change of clothes, cell phones, etc. There’ll be a costume contest with prizes for the most creative ideas; free massages and homemade showers. “The Princess Bride” closes outdoor cinema season
As always, the last show in the Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema series features “The Princess Bride” Saturday at the Fairhaven Village Green at 10th Street and Mill Avenue. A circus variety with Claymazing begins at 6:15 p.m., followed by the movie at dusk. Bring blankets for the grass or low-back lawn chairs for limited seating on brick areas. A Truck Load O’ Fun
Have a “Truck Load O’ Fun” at the second annual City of Blaine Public Works equipment “Roadeo” from 1-3 p.m. Friday behind the Blaine Public Library at 610 Third St. Experience big equipment in action with demonstrations, interactive activities for kids of all ages, games and prizes. Kids can climb aboard a variety of equipment while supervised for photos or just for the experience. Small children should be accompanied by an adult to ensure safety around equipment. Up on the Roof
Pickford Film Center and 92.9 KISM present the second in the 2017 Rooftop Cinema outdoor summer film series on the rooftop of the Commercial Street Parking Garage (the Parkade) at 1300 Commercial St. The screening of “O Brother Where Art Thou” begins at 6:15 p.m. Friday with music by Whiskey Fever. Ferndale Street Festival
The 14th annual Ferndale Street Festival begins at 6 p.m. Friday and continues from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday with live bands, including Flashback Nation, Arcade Cowboys, the Marlin James Band and Blindfate; food trucks; a pie-eating contest; a car show; craft vendors; and a beer garden on Main Street. Kids will enjoy pony rides, a petting zoo, a bouncy house and a money hunt in the hay. For shopping enthusiasts, the local retail stores will remain open with sales through the festival, and the event is pet-friendly. If you brought your pet but don’t want to miss out on the beer garden, head to the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce’s booth at the corner of Main and Second streets between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday to get a free two-hour dog sitting voucher from Hot Dogz Pet Daycare.
