Drive-in theaters may be a thing of the past, but Whatcom County still has opportunities to watch movies this summer under the light of the moon. Check ahead in case rain cancels a screening.
Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema
Now in its 17th year, the series shows films on a 30-foot screen at Fairhaven Village Green, 1207 10th St., on Saturdays through Aug. 27 in the historic Bellingham district, with live entertainment before each movie.
Events are rain or shine, and the movies begin at dusk with seating on the grass and limited seating on the surrounding brick areas for folding chairs. Admission: $5, free for age 5 and younger. Hot food and snacks available for sale. Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages permitted.

Movies in Maple Falls
Crave’n Burgers & Brew, a new restaurant in Maple Falls at 7174 Mount Baker Highway, is open daily for lunch and dinner. Free movies begin at dusk.

Ferndale Flick in the Park
The free community event hosted by the city of Ferndale in historic Pioneer Park, 2004 Cherry St., opens at 8:30 p.m. The movie begins after sunset, with food vendors and entertainment starting at dusk. Remember to bring blankets and/or chairs. Seating is stadium-style, with blankets in front and lawn chairs in back. Hot dogs will be provided.

Movies in the Courtyard
Artifacts Café & Wine Bar, 202 Grand Ave., adjacent to Whatcom Museum’s Lightcatcher, hosts a series of music, films with a “wine twist,” and dinners. All events are open to the public. Music with Adrian Clarke starts at 6 p.m.; movies start at 8. The series is free.

Aug. 5: “Bottle Shock” with Chateau Montelena tasting.
Aug. 19: “Year of the Comet” with Southern Rhone tasting.
Pickford Film Center hosts Rooftop Cinema, an outdoor summer film series atop the Commercial Street Parking Garage (formerly called the Parkade), 1300 Commercial St. Gates open at 7 p.m. July 22 and Aug. 5, and 7:15 p.m. Aug. 19, with a beer garden sponsored by Boundary Bay Brewery; live music and entertainment; food trucks from Papous Gyros, West Coast Pops, Street Dogz, and Acme Ice Cream; and a variety of movie-related activities. Movies are projected on a giant inflatable screen. Admission is free.
