Program for girls at WWU
Western Washington University is offering opportunities for girls in engineering, math, science and technology through its upcoming GEMS Academy and GEMS Night Out programs.
▪ GEMS Night Out, from 7 to 9:45 p.m. Feb. 26, features separate sessions for girls in grades 3-5 and 6-8. Activities in WWU’s Science, Math and Technology Education Building will be followed by swimming at Wade King Recreation Center. Cost is $25.
▪ GEMS Academy is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 5. Cost is $39 per student, which includes cafeteria lunch. Sessions include anatomy (EMT skills), astronomy with a visit to the Spanel Planetarium, computer circuitry, basic chemistry, engineering design, veterinary science, air currents and neuroscience.
