Zombies, haunted houses and music on Halloween week
Carlee Wilson, who’s organizing the 2015 “Thrillingham” event, answers one of the most frequent questions:
“What if it rains?”
“Zombies are weather-resistant,” she says. “They’ll still perform!”
Wilson says about 60 people, ages 7 to 70, have been practicing the Michael Jackson dance routine to “Thriller” for one of the most popular Halloween traditions in Whatcom County. It’s set for 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Maritime Heritage Center, Holly Street and Central Avenue, and donations will benefit Lydia Place, a Bellingham nonprofit that offers traditional housing, emergency housing and other programs for homeless families in Whatcom County.
The location for Thrillingham makes sense, Wilson says.
“Thrillingham is held at a place known for homelessness. We can use our event to bring the community together in a positive way and shed light on the darkness our homeless neighbors are experiencing.”
Thrillingham is one of dozens of events taking place Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 29-31 in Bellingham.
Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro is hosting two events, “The Nightmare on Railroad” and the annual Halloween Bash.
The Brewery is teaming up with Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth, and the young actors will produce all-ages shows at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 21-and-over shows at 9:30 p.m. Entry is $5, and the event will raise scholarship money for BAAY students, says artistic director David Post.
Ian Bivins is coordinating the event, says Post.
“Your BAAY actor host will lead you to a haunted chamber to begin the tour,” Post says.
“Lisa Markowitz’ BAAY Dance Company will start festivities with a dazzling and artfully ghoulish performance, then audience members will be led down a scary road to the Garden of Doom Dungeon, laden with scary rooms of unspeakable horrors, with BAAY students and other actors providing the spirit.”
“A haunted house is such an integral part of Halloween, we’re thrilled to partner with BAAY to bring a great experience to our community,” says Boundary Bay general manager Janet Lightner.
Scary Monster & The Super Creeps are a natural and perfect choice for entertainment on Halloween night.

The Halloween Bash is at 9 p.m. Saturday, with David Bowie cover band Scary Monster & the Super Creeps, lead by Sean Meyer.
“Scary Monster & The Super Creeps are a natural and perfect choice for entertainment on Halloween night,” Lightner says.
“The stars couldn’t align any better.”
