Music: Helio Sequence plays The Shakedown Sept. 20.

The Helio Sequence from Portland, Ore., play from their new, self-titled album, their sixth, at 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at The Shakedown, 1212 N. State St.

After creating their previous album, 2012’s “Negotiations,” through a long introspective process, the duo — Brandon Summers and Benjamin Weikel —wanted to try a new, open and immediate approach for their alternative rock sound.

Summers is responsible for the lyrics, lead vocals and guitar, and shares production credits with Weikel. As well as playing drums and keyboard for The Helio Sequence, and taking part in production, Weikel has also recorded with the band Modest Mouse.

Cover is $12. Lost Lander opens.
