Whatcom Jazz Music Art Center presents legendary drummer Louis Hayes in a performance with the Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band, with Vincent Herring on alto sax, Jeremy Pelt on trumpet, Rick Germanson on piano, and Dezron Douglas on bass, at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth’s Theater, 1059 N. State St.
Hayes has played with John Coltrane, Oscar Peterson, Freddie Hubbard, Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson, Grant Green and others. Recent engagements include The Kennedy Center for the Arts, The JVC Jazz Festival, The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and the Chivas Jazz Festival in Brazil.
His current main endeavors involve leading the Cannonball Legacy Band, which pays tribute to the hard bop music of the late alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley; and The Jazz Communicators, Hayes’ effort to bring exciting musical alternatives to audiences.
