Esther de Monteflores, a circus artist with Bellingham Circus Guild, debuts her one-woman circus show, “Climb,” which features her performing on corde de lisse (aerial rope) and slack rope, in the Vancouver, B.C., Fringe Festival Sept. 12-20 on Granville Island.
She moved from Vancouver to Bellingham in 2011 after completing an undergraduate degree at the University of British Columbia. While she did circus training as a teenager, she credits her move to Bellingham with reintroducing her into the world of contemporary circus. Bellingham provided a community, space, and paid work that prompted her to ditch a promising master’s degree in speech sciences at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, Scotland, and pursue circus as a full-time career. She currently lives, works and trains in Bellingham.
