Bumbershoot, Seattle’s end-of-summer festival now in its 45th year, celebrates local and regional talent alongside national and international artists across the arts spectrum Saturday through Monday, Sept. 5-7, at Seattle Center.
This year’s festival has expanded offerings, with such top-tier musical headliners such as The Weeknd, Faith No More, Ellie Goulding, and Bassnectar. Also on deck; punk stalwarts Social Distortion, alt‐country chanteuse Neko Case, comedian Neil Hamburger, and alt‐pop purveyors Hey Marseilles.
Bumbershoot’s Words & Ideas programming includes a taping of Sherman Alexie and Jess Walter’s podcast, “A Tiny Sense of Accomplishment;” and slam poetry competition Battle of the Word.
The 1 Reel Film Festival, curated by the Seattle International Film Festival, presents some of the best short films from this year’s Film Festival; and Theatre Puget Sound has rounded up an assortment of regional theater programs. Dance returns this year, with Maximum Velocity and the Reign Supreme Breakdancing Competition.
For youngsters, there’s the Youngershoot Kids’ Zone, curated by Seattle Children’s Museum and aimed at kids 10 and younger, and The Vera Project’s 21-and-younger programming with DJs, bands and comedy. Complete lineup and fees: bumbershoot.com.
