Theater: BAAY ends summer season with ‘Hercules’ Aug. 28-30

Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth presents “Disney’s Hercules” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 28-30, at BAAY Theatre, 1059 N. State St.

The plot: All seems well on Mount Olympus when young Hercules is born. However Hercules, the son of Zeus, is turned into a half-god, half-mortal by evil Hades, God of the Underworld, who plans to overthrow Zeus. Hercules is forced to live on Earth and retains his god-like strength, thanks to Hades’ sidekicks Pain and Panic.

When Hercules discovers his father is Zeus, he learns he must become a true hero to return home. Hercules becomes a famous hero with the help of his friend Pegasus and his personal trainer, Phil the satyr. Hercules battles monsters, Hades and the Titans, all told by the Muses with upbeat music.

The show features two casts of students. ages 9 to 15. At 1 p.m. Sunday, the public is invited to celebrate a successful summer season at BAAY with a gala preceding the final performance.

Tickets are $10 at Brown Paper Tickets. Gala tickets are $20 through Brown Paper Tickets and include admission to the show. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided. Details: Sara Alkhedairy, sara@baay.org.
