Prince Harry will no longer bring Meghan, kids to London on UK trip

Prince Harry is changing his plans.

The Duke of Sussex will no longer bring Duchess Meghan and their children along during the London portion of the visit to the U.K., a representative for Harry confirmed to USA TODAY Saturday, July 4.

The decision comes amid ongoing discussions over what the security arrangements would be for the family who so controversially retreated from royal life.

That doesn't mean Meghan, 44, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, won't accompany Harry, 41, on the trip at all. Arrangements for the rest of the trip are still under consideration, his rep said. Meghan and the children may unite with Harry when he leaves London for engagements up north.

The decision follows confirmation that the Sussexes would not be provided with tax-payer funded police security during the five-day trip.

The last time Harry and Meghan were in the United Kingdom together was in September 2022 for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, which marked the end of the monarch's 70-year reign.

Harry has previously said concerns about his family's safety have prevented him from bringing Meghan and their children back to the United Kingdom, citing the loss of taxpayer-funded security after he stepped back from royal duties in 2020.

Last month, Harry and Meghan accepted the king's offer to stay in a royal residence, where they would have had royal security on sight. The royal residence was not disclosed. The family had been offered accommodation at Buckingham Palace in the past and denied it.

Last month the a spokesman for the duke told USA TODAY on June 29 that "the issue has never been accommodation" and that "the issue is whether appropriate and proportionate protective security is being provided throughout the entirety of the visit."

Harry has long raised concerns about the safety of his loved ones, telling the BBC last year, "I can't see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the U.K. at this point."
