Festival: Skillshare Faire has demos, workshops Aug. 29-30
The Whatcom Skillshare Faire, taking place from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29-30, at Fairhaven Park and the Center for Local Self Reliance, 107 Chuckanut Drive, features short classes, workshops and hands-on demonstrations of a variety of skills, with a focus on old-time as well as newfangled skills that increase self-reliance and community resilience.
Skills to be shared include beekeeping; making a wooden bow; making fermented foods, such as sauerkraut, kambucha, wine and beer; trimming goat hooves; hide-tanning; making a raccoon skin cap; and trapping and snaring. There also will be workshops on juggling; washing, carding and spinning wool; making puppets; and creating clay pots.
