Rock Legend Achieves Rare Chart Feat 56 Years After First Solo LP

In a career spanning almost 70 years, Paul McCartney continues to make music history by achieving a rare chart feat with his latest LP.

McCartney's The Boys of Dungeon Lane is his 22nd Top 10 charting LP as a solo artist, reported Billboard Magazine. This LP includes all of his solo efforts and those albums he charted with Wings.

It has been 56 years since the Beatles' bassist first charted as a solo artist. He hit the Top 10 with his McCartney LP in 1970.

The Boys of Dungeon Lane earned McCartney a No. 1 spot on the June 2026 list of Top Album Sales, Vinyl Albums, and Indie Store Album Sales. Additionally, he debuted at No. 2 on the Top Rock Albums Chart and the Top Rock & Alternative Albums Chart, and landed at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.

McCartney has charted every decade since the 1970s. Few artists can match the longevity and consistency he has demonstrated throughout his career.

Before The Boys of Dungeon Lane, the legendary musician released McCartney III in 2020. That LP also topped the Top Rock Albums chart.

In 2018, the artist hit No. 1 with the LP Egypt Station. It was 36 years prior McCartney last hit the chart's top spot with Tug of War, per The Hollywood Reporter.

McCartney's life will be the subject of the upcoming Beatles biopics by Sam Mendes. Paul Mescal portrays the musician in the new feature film. Mescal's participation as one-quarter of the Fab Four comes alongside Harris Dickinson, who plays John Lennon; Barry Keoghan portrays Ringo Starr and Joseph Quinn is George Harrison.

In an interview, McCartney told Mescal that writing The Boys of Dungeon Lane gave him a new perspective on many long-term relationships, including those with John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and his parents, Mary and James McCartney.

"Looking back, I ran into this guy called John Lennon. He was very witty," McCartney said.

"For this record, I referred to him in my mind as if we're still writing together," he added. "Sometimes I get away with it, sometimes it's just not good."

"His spirit is still in me. I'm very glad about that," he concluded.

Paul McCartney's chart accomplishment is especially poignant as it falls during his birthday month. He turns 84 on June 18, 2026.
