Legendary '70s Rock Band Still Going Strong Drops New Single From Upcoming Album
Question: Is prog-rock still alive and rocking in 2026? Y-E-S. The pioneers of progressive rock are still going strong, with their fifth albuminthree years dropping in a matter of days now.
Aurora, YES' 24th studio record, is set for release on June 12, with guitarist Steve Howe, keyboardist Geoff Downes, and bassist Billy Sherwood, who all had retro stints with YES, as well as frontman Jon Davison and drummer Jay Schellen, all contributing.
"Making this record was joyful, a chance to play, explore, and give everything to the music," Howe said, per the band's official website. "It's always been about collaboration, somebody can write a song, but until everybody puts their contribution in it isn't really a YES song. We're not trying to echo the past; we're carrying the spirit of YES forward and turning it into something new."
After releasing their same-name lead single last month, the Grammy-winning band treated fans to another morsel, dropping their second single, "Turnaround Station," today.
"YES are extremely proud to launch the new single ‘Turnaround Situation' from their forthcoming album 'Aurora,' accompanied by a visualizer animated by Matt Hutchings, who also made the video for ‘Aurora,'" the band, who gave us "Roundabout" in 1971 and "Owner of a Lonely Heart" in 1983, shared on Instagram.
In a press release announcing the track, Davison said, "‘Turnaround Situation' came from realizing that every time I ignored my conscience, life seemed to fall apart in one way or another. I've taken the wrong road before. Most people have. There's always a temporary thrill in it, but eventually it catches up with you."
He added, "Ultimately, the song is meant to capture that feeling of finally being at peace with yourself, when, by choosing the high road, you stop fighting what you know deep down is right.
