'Selling Sunset' Fans Shocked Over Mass Firings and Christine Quinn's Return: ‘How Did Jason Let His BFF/Soulmate Get Fired?'
The Oppenheim Group just lost half its cast. In an abrupt casting sweep right before production begins, Netflix cleaned house on Selling Sunset.
Emma Hernan, Mary Bonnet, Chelsea Lazkani, Alanna Gold, and Sandra Vergara (the sister of Sofia Vergara) have all been fired from the reality series, the Daily Mail confirmed.
Insiders state the axe came down on the cast members in April. Filming starts in a couple of weeks, according to TMZ. But the office isn't empty. A source told the Daily Mail that Bre Tiesi, Christine Quinn, Amanza Smith, and Heather Rae El Moussa are returning for the new season. In other words, production team completely removed the alliance that spent the last few seasons locked in opposition against Tiesi.
The decision regarding Bonnet is the biggest surprise for viewers. She has been a fixture of the series since the pilot, and her personal history with agency owner Jason Oppenheim ran deep.
Viewers immediately hit Reddit to dissect how the agency leader lost her spot on the call sheet. "I can't believe they fired Mary?! Like she is so close to Jason, I wonder what happened," one fan wrote.
"I'm so shocked at this overhaul. Getting rid of Mary is truly surprising, I never imagined Jason allowing that to happen. But she did make herself look so bad, maybe producers decided there was no chance of recovery," admitted another viewer. "It also kind of seems like they just wiped out everyone who had beef with each other. But bringing Christine back who already fell out with literally everyone including Heather makes no sense to me."
The mass termination could be tied to Quinn's return, some fans believe. She exited the show after major fallouts with nearly every coworker. One viewer broke down the strategy on Reddit, connecting the dots between the departures and the return of the show's original antagonist: "WOW!!!! Mary not being on the show anymore is absolutely insane like how did Jason let his BFF/soulmate get fired??? 💀 I definitely thought Mary was in the clear after I figured Chelsea wasn't coming back 💀." The comment continues, "Emma also getting axed is wild to me because she just became close to everyone else after Chrishell dumped her LMAO but my guess is that Mary and Emma's departures have to do with Christine's return? Maybe they didn't want to film with her/vice versa and Netflix chose Christine over them."
Netflix is also looking down the coast for reinforcements. Sources have named another woman who is allegedly in talks to join the cast of Selling Sunset - Alex Hall, one of the stars of the spin-off series Selling the OC, which is currently on hiatus, according to TMZ.
