Who Should You Pull For In Genshin Impact Luna VII? Nicole, Lohen, Durin, And Mavuika Banner Review
Luna VII serves as the penultimate arc to our journey through Nod-Krai, and we're going for a detour towards Sumeru and thwarting Dottore's final plan. In this new Genshin Impact version, Nicole and Lohen are having their playable debut, joining our roster and bolstering the existing Hexerei synergies. This will be an analysis of all the featured characters in Luna VII, including their strength, performance, and future meta relevance in Nod-Krai and beyond.
Nicole
Strengths
- Team-wide attack boost
- Durable Pyro shield
- Extra damage from Burst's coordinated attacks
Weaknesses
- Less effective on healing-dependent teams
- High artifact stat requirements
Rating - 4.5/5
While Nicole is commonly compared to Bennett as a side-grade alternative, there are several functions she alone can fill. She is a priority support for teams that require a shield rather than healing, such as Arlecchino and Hu Tao. Unlike Bennett, she counts as a Witch (well, she is one) and thus activates Hexerei synergy with other similar characters.
Her issue lies in how her ATK buff scales: Total ATK rather than her Base ATK. This means that she will need to optimize her artifacts to have as many ATK stats while having enough ER to sustain her Elemental Burst rotations. And even though people say she's a Bennett "side-grade" at worst, there's nothing wrong with having a potent Pyro support on both halves of the Spiral Abyss.
Durin (Rerun)
Strengths
- Versatile DPS and Support
- Flexible artifact options
- Low Energy Recharge requirement
Weaknesses
- His best teams are slightly premium and require investment
Rating - 4.5/5
Durin had a decent reception when he came out, despite having a limited pool of Hexerei characters he can synergize with. His 35% RES shred serves as a potent alternative to the Viridescent Venerer artifact set, but also still stacks with it in teams where Venti or Sucrose are viable.
With the addition of Nicole, Lohen, and Prune, he solidifies his role as a premium burst DPS or a Pyro support in many compositions. His future value only increases as more Hexerei characters are added, and may even open up to several new Melt and Vaporise teams once Snezhnaya comes out.
Lohen
Strengths
- "DPS Extension" role
- Unique team-building style
Weaknesses
- Requires full team-wide investment
- Not self-reliant
Rating - 4/5
Lohen isn't exactly a "support" or a "hypercarry" in the conventional sense. He is still a strong damage-dealer, but his damage output relies directly on how much damage the rest of his team inflicts. During combat, overall team damage is tallied which then grants Lohen a special gauge he can consume to increase his on-field damage even more. In a way, he acts as a "finisher" who executes the final blows after his party members have initially dealt damage to his foes.
This means that Lohen can "extend" the damage of other Sub-DPS characters or "Quick Swap" characters in his team. The caveat with this composition is the immense investment required to pull off the entire setup. You will need to optimize not only Lohen's damage, but also the damage of the rest of the team (excluding the pure supports).
Mavuika (Rerun)
Strengths
- Remains as the strongest Pyro character
- Flexible team compositions
- Straightforward team rotations
Weaknesses
- Best teams require support constellations
- Highest-damage combos are difficult to execute
- Prefers to have 1-2 Natlan party members
Rating - 5/5 (2/5 for New Players)
It has been more than a year since Mavuika's playable debut, yet she still stands at the top of the Pyro ladder-which is fitting for someone known as the Pyro Archon. Since her release, many strong contenders have appeared who can rival her DPS output, such as Skirk, Nefer, Flins, and Zibai. Despite continued power creep, Mavuika's damage output still trails closely behind the new meta characters, while being fairly accessible if you already have some existing Natlan characters since version 5.X.
Unfortunately, Mavuika's accessibility drops sharply for players who have only started the game. While her strong teams often only require 4-star characters and a few 5-star characters, these either require maxed constellations (Bennett, Chevreuse, Kachina) or have limited value in the current meta (Citlali, Xilonen). In that case, the new players are better off pulling for more recent characters with stronger baseline strength, such as Columbina or Linnea.
The Luna VII banners might be quite tempting to pull for, knowing that the featured characters are brimming with strength and potential. However, Snezhnaya is right around the corner, and we might even see a new shift to the meta in record time. If you like any of these characters, you won't be disappointed; if you're still on the fence, you might want to hold on to your Primogems until we see something special in the near future.
