Nancy Guthrie Update: Sheriff Nanos Offers Reality Check on Investigation Timeline
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is addressing why the investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance remains unsolved. In a new interview, he acknowledged public frustration over the lack of answers but said the case requires a careful and thorough approach as it continues to develop.
"Nobody wants to make a false arrest. Nobody wants to falsely accuse somebody," Nanos told People. "At some point in time, someday we may have somebody in a courtroom that deserves his or her right to have a fair and impartial trial. The way you get that is through a fair and impartial investigation."
"There's frustration because people want to know [what happened]," he continued. "But this is just like any other case. Sometimes you solve them within hours or days. Sometimes it takes a long time."
Guthrie has been missing since Feb. 1. Investigators believe that she was abducted from her home in the overnight hours, though it's unclear who took her and for what reason. Nanos has asked that anyone with information come forward as any tip-big or small-could help break the case wide open.
"We still get calls, we still get tips," Nanos told People. "Even if the tip is from last night, 102 days later, because it might be somebody calling saying, ‘Somebody in this neighborhood doesn't look right.' We tell our folks here in Pima County: if you see something suspicious to you, call us."
Anyone with information pertaining to the case is asked to call the FBI (1-800-CALL-FBI).
