Festival: Arts fun, performers at Maritime Heritage Park

Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring its first Children’s Art Festival, a collection of crafts and projects, as an end-of-summer bash in Old Town near the waterfront.

The festival is free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, on the lawn at Maritime Heritage Park. It features some 25 booths offering such diverse activities as fish prints, face painting, recycled art, noodle necklaces, and juggling lessons.

“They’re just fun and easy crafts for your child to do,” said coordinator Lauren Woodmansee. “The kids can make all sorts of cool, funky things.”

Woodmansee said several family- and education-oriented businesses and organizations will be on hand with information. There also will be food for sale, and roaming performers, such as stilt walkers.
