Music: West My Friend plays Aug. 21 at Maritime Heritage
West My Friend performs a free concert from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Maritime Heritage Park, Holly Street at Central Avenue, presented by the Levitt AMP Bellingham Music Series and Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department. Food will be available.
West My Friend came to life in a café in Victoria, B.C., in 2009 and emerged as a voice in the landscape between Canadian folk and indie-pop. They work collaboratively to create their songs’ clever lyrics, acrobatic mandolin riffs, bass lines, and accordion.
In 2012, West My Friend released its first full-length album, “Place,” which earn multiple award nominations, including “Roots Album of the Year” and “Song of the Year,” at the Vancouver Island Music Awards.
With the 2014 release of their second album, “When The Ink Dries,” they earned a Vancouver Island Music Award for “Roots/Folk Album of the Year” among other accolades. The album features collaborations with the Victoria Symphony and the Buena Vista Social Club.
