Bellingham’s free live music series returns soon; check out the lineup
Downtown Sounds, Bellingham’s summertime concert series is returning for its 21st year, starting Wednesday, July 9.
“The Downtown Bellingham Partnership (DBP) is excited to announce the lineup and several new attractions for the 21st annual Downtown Sounds, featuring free live music in the Arts District on five Wednesdays from July 9 to Aug. 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. This all-ages event transforms five blocks of Bay, Holly and Prospect streets into a lively hub of music, food and activity, featuring an electrifying mix of funk, soul, and reggae music from national headliners and regional openers to the outdoor stage,” a new release from the DBP states.
This year’s lineup includes these bands:
▪ Meta & the Cornerstones, a reggae group and The Whags, an Americana funk band, July 9
▪ Queen Mother, a Queen tribute band and Veronica North on July 16
▪ Good Co, an electro swing and funk band and County Rose, a hometown country group, on July 23
▪ LowDown Brass Band, a hip hop group and The Problem, a hometown funk group, on July 30
▪ The Gold Souls, a cosmic funk band, and Hard Maybe, a neo soul group, on Aug. 6
“Downtown Sounds is a summer tradition that draws over 25,000 people and generates $410,000 in local spending within our business district, all while celebrating music, community, and the unique energy of Downtown. For 21 years, this series has reflected the heart and soul of Bellingham, and we’re thrilled to keep growing this experience for all ages to enjoy,” Lindsey Payne Johnstone, executive director of the Downtown Bellingham Partnership wrote in the news release.
The free concerts are open to all ages, and festivities begin each Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Music is planned to start at 6 p.m. The event also includes a 21+ beer garden, “Family Alley” with activities for kids, food trucks, and a happy hour from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. each night with $2 off drinks.
