Whatcom Jazz Music Art Center presents acid jazz ensemble Arête Quartet, featuring San Francisco trumpeter Dave Carter and Seattle keyboard master Joe Doria, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at The Majestic, 1027 N. Forest St. (use the Maple Street entrance).

They’re joined by Bellingham rhythm section mates Steve Jones on bass and Joel Litwin on drums.

In the tradition of Miles Davis; Medeski Martin & Wood; Freddie Hubbard and others, the quartet features deep grooves, beautiful horn lines, and world-class soloing, borrowing from down-tempo, straight-ahead jazz, funk, contemporary electronic music and Brazilian genres.

Admission is $10 general, $5 students, free for center members.
