Whatcom County gives nod to a goofy classic in The Herald’s 2024 Christmas movie poll
We asked readers which Christmas movie is their favorite, and the votes are in.
The poll offered 26 holiday movie options, including “Elf,” “White Christmas,” “It’s A Wonderful Life,” “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.”
The unscientific poll allowed participants to vote for their three favorite movies, and the poll had 152 participants.
Whatcom County’s favorite Christmas movie
“National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” received 43 votes, or 28% of the total to be named Whatcom County’s favorite Christmas movie.
The 1989 film follows main character Clark Griswold, played by Chevy Chase, who attempts to make the perfect Christmas for his family. As the holiday unfolds, many unique family members share a house, a squirrel gets loose and the Griswold picture-perfect celebration doesn’t go as planned.
“National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” can be streamed on Hulu, Amazon Prime, Max, Apple TV and YouTube TV.
In second place with 41 votes was “Elf.”
The 2003 Will Ferrell movie follows Buddy the Elf through his adventure from the North Pole to New York City, where he experiences an unfamiliar and unwelcoming environment, lacking in Christmas cheer.
“Elf” can be streamed on Hulu, Max, Amazon Prime and Apple TV.
In third place was “A Christmas Story” with 39 votes, followed by “It’s a Wonderful Life” with 33 votes and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” with 32 votes.
Last year, Whatcom County’s favorite Christmas movie was “It’s A Wonderful Life.”
