Allied Arts’ fifth annual Door Art Throwdown will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at 1310 Commercial St., with 10 teams of artists who will create a mural on a repurposed door in two hours, using any medium or material they want.
Art Walk participants can watch the artists at work and can vote on which team they like best by tipping their team of choice. The doors will then be sold that evening by silent auction.
At HATCH, a new retail storefront at 1302 Commercial St., Ragfinery and Wise Buys Community Thrift Store of Lydia Place will celebrate the inaugural Downtown Upcycle Throwdown from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday.
For two months, more than 20 people have created submissions for the art-and-sustainability event. The culminating exhibit features an artist meet-and-greet, a People’s Choice contest, music by DJ Birdman, cold beverages from Kulshan Brewery and Kombucha Town, and sweet surprises top off the art challenge that features 100 percent recycled materials.
