With more than 500 applicants for the 2015 Anacortes Arts Festival, fine-arts booth selections are based on quality and originality. Many new artists will be featured this year, from the West Coast to as far away as New York, Florida, and Texas.

The festival runs 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 7-9 on Commercial Street and the surrounding downtown area, with booth artisans, Arts at the Port (part of the First Friday Gallery walk), food, beer gardens, and music on three stages.

There’s the Main Stage on Third Street; the Jazz Stage with a variety of softer sounds between Ninth and 10th streets at the south end of the festival; and the new Port Stage features a variety of performers at the north end of Commercial Avenue, next to Arts at the Port.

Also, now in its second year, Ink Alley highlights indie crafts on Sixth Street.
