Festival: Arrrgh! Drayton Harbor Days offers family fun

Drayton Harbor Days offers a wide variety of family fun, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 1-2, at Blaine Marina, 235 Marine Drive.

Come early Saturday for the 5k Run to the Border (letsmoveblaine.org), then stop off at the Community Center to enjoy a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. At Blaine Harbor Boating Center, enjoy live music throughout the day, a pirate costume contest for kids, and arts and crafts booths from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Northwest Steam Society will have a selection of steamboats parked along the docks for viewing. The prestigious George Raft Race will commence at 1 p.m. at the Blaine Harbor public boat launch and will conclude at the visitors’ dock. (Gate ll), below the harbor master’s office. Participants paddle homemade rafts built from recycled floatable materials. Everyone is welcome to join in the raft race, or just watch the excitement.

People can ride the historic Plover Ferry to Semiahmoo Spit from 10 to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. On Saturday, finish the day by enjoying a movie under the stars at 9 p.m. at Blaine Marine Park.

The fun continues on Sunday with arts and crafts vendors, kids’ activities, Plover rides, and boat displays. Also, bring your pets, dressed in costume or to show off their latest tricks, for a chance to win a prize in the pet contest at Blaine Boating Center at 1 p.m.

The A.P.A. Museum at Semiahmoo County Park, with displays about the history of Blaine’s cannery and fishing days will be open both days.
