Dance: WWU presents ‘Movement Graffiti: Dance Theatre’
Nolan Dennet, a dance professor at Western Washington University, invited choreographers Nolan Hoppe-Leonard, Tara Reiter, Eli Madsen and Cassandra Howle to work with the “Movement Graffiti: Dance Theater” production. They turned to subjects as diverse as the internal wishes of another and Shakespearean sonnets for inspiration for the performances at 7:30 p.m. July 29-31 and 2 p.m. Aug.2 at Western’s Viking Union Multipurpose Room
Similarly, music as varied as that of Arvo Part, Kronos String Quartet, Bobby McFerrin, and Carl Orff underscore the five works to be showcased. The production is impressionistic in nature, best appreciated, Dennet says, if audience members let the experience wash over them without trying to “figure it out.”
The works have appeal for the whole family. Tickets are $10 general, $6 students, at 360-650-6146 and tickets.wwu.edu. Details: 360-650-3876, cfpa.wwu.edu/theatredance.
