Music: Patchy Sanders bring avant-folk to Boundary Bay
Seeking to broaden modern folk’s traditionalist approach, the Patchy Sanders band out of Ashland, Ore., performs new material in a free gig from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro, 1107 Railroad Ave.
The band, which will be returning from Canada on their first international tour, bends toward avant-folk, with folk-orchestral arrangements that blend diverse genres and musical styles. They play a contemporary, independent, eclectic and eccentric folk music that critics have been trying, with effort, to categorize.
