Film: WWU grad Scott Ballard’s new film at the Pickford

“A Standing Still,” an award-winning feature film by Bellingham native and Western Washington University graduate Scott Ballard, will be screened at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at Pickford Film Center, 1318 Bay St. The film was shot in Bellingham; Portland, Ore.; various locations in the Willamette National Forest; and the Oregon Coast.

The film revolves around a young recluse, Allison, played by Sara Robbin, who struggles with the future in the midst of loss and displacement. When a family emergency calls her away from her job as a fire lookout in the Willamette National Forest, she is forced to face her present and the past that has led her there.

The film, which features the environmental beauty of the Northwest as a backdrop for Allison’s emotional journey, has won numerous awards around the country, and garnered nominations for national and international awards.

Ballard, who now lives in Portland, has 12 years experience filming narrative features, shorts, documentaries, and music videos.
