Here’s what is happening the last full weekend of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival
After a clear Easter weekend with lots of people, the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival still has plenty of blooms and events for its last official weekend of events Saturday-Sunday, April 23-24. Executive Director of the Tulip Festival Cindy Verge said the festival has had a large turnout this year.
“(The tulips) are blooming and they’re gorgeous,” Verge said. “We had a banger Easter weekend.”
The weekend weather should make for nice touring, according to the National Weather Service. Friday, April 22, and Saturday will be partly sunny with highs near 58-59. There’s a slight chance of rain Sunday, but will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 61.
Along with the gardens and fields, there are some special events this weekend to end the festival season.
▪ Woodfest, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, is at Sedro-Woolley High School, 1235 Third St.
Woodfest is a celebration of woodworking heritage and a time for Sedro-Woolley High School students to showcase their technology work, Verge said.
“They’ve got master woodworkers and carvers on-site,” Verge said. “Students actually compete and I’ve seen some of the entries they put in, the woodworking was beautiful.”
▪ Tulip Pedal Bike Ride, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday begins at La Conner Middle School, 305 N. Sixth St. It raises money for kids’ helmets through Safe Kids Northwest. There are options for a 20-mile, 40-mile or 60-mile ride. Pre-registration is $40, Saturday it’s $45.
▪ Art in a Pickle Barn, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Schuh Farms, 115565 State Route 536, Mount Vernon.
▪ The Kiwanis Salmon Barbecue is $23 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through May 1 at Hillcrest Park Lodge, 1717 S. 13th St., Mount Vernon.
The official last day of the festival is Saturday, April 30, however, there will still be some events to close it out.
“All of the gardens will be open on May 1. So even though the festival technically ends April 30, folks can still come up and enjoy the final tulips,” Verge said.
Printable maps and an extensive list of events is at the Skagit Valley Festival website.
