Outdoor movies are starting to make a comeback.

Western Washington University will be hosting a Summer Drive-In event at the Lincoln Creek Transportation Center in Bellingham on Friday and Saturday. Each night will be a double feature with “Jurassic Park” and “Get Out” playing on Friday while “Men In Black” and “The Matrix” will play Saturday.

Gates open at 8 p.m. on July 31 and Aug. 1 and the first movie is expected to start around 9:15 p.m.

Ticket prices start at $25 for the general public and includes the first two people in the car. Each additional passenger will be $2 per person. Discounts are available for Pickford Film Center members ($20), Alumni Association Members ($15) and current WWU students ($10).

A drive-in event is also being hosted at the Birch Bay Waterslides on Friday night for Jurassic Park, but tickets for cars, trucks and SUVs are sold out. However, golf cart parking is available for $15. More information can be found on the Birch Bay chamber website.

These would be the first outdoor or drive-in movies in the Bellingham area after the Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema was forced to cancel its events in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Both events will follow the safety guidelines set by the Governor’s office and the Department of Health.
