Two-time Grammy-nominated Kim Richey is a veteran singer-storyteller; her latest album, “Thorn In My Heart,” features singers Trisha Yearwood, Jason Isbell, Will Kimbrough, Wilco’s Pat Sansone and My Morning Jacket’s Carl Broemel.
Though her work fits into the country music category, her sound is not easily categorized. Her songs have been hits on both the country and pop charts.
In 1997, “Let the Sun Fall Down” (from her debut album) was featured in the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” episode, “Never Kill a Boy on the First Date.” Although Richey did not appear in concert in the episode, her song played over the episode’s emotional climax, in the penultimate scene.
She performs at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, at the Green Frog, 1015 N. State St.
